Thanksgiving '08

Once again, Tefft was in charge of the Technology Thanksgiving potluck yesterday. And as usual, the theme for this year was completely unrelated to the traditional themes associated with the Thanksgiving celebration.

For example, last year's theme was Pro-Gun Control. The year previous was Pesticides cause Cancer. She likes to make sure we're acutely aware of the issues and that we really stop and think about what we're thankful for.

This year's theme was Gay Marriage

Once again, she had Gladstone and McKinney work with their teams for weeks to prepare. They dressed the floor with all kinds of decorations. For example, there were posters with very detailed drawings depicting both Indians and Pilgrims working together to hunt down and imprison homosexuals.

This confused everyone because nobody could really tell if Tefft was pro gay marriage or not. Were the posters meant to be a sardonic representation of today's intolerant world? Or were they meant in a more literal sense expressing the sentiment that all races should be unified in order to eradicate the homosexuals?

In the conference room, Tefft had everyone sit boy-girl, boy-girl, and insured that each male and female combination were each of a different race.

Before we actually started eating, Tefft offered a little prayer:

"Dear Lord, thank you for all these scrumptious fixins and we do truly appreciate the extra gravy this year, since last year, Jason's department didn't bring enough. We also thank you for the right we heterosexuals have to marry anyone we want, even outside our own race, notwithstanding the fact that you have told us not to do that, but nevertheless, we do appreciate that by the law of the land, we do have that right."

"Please bless those less fortunate. And thank the Lord we're not homosexuals."

There were some very reluctant "Amens" if any. Nobody really knew what she was saying. While she sounds like she's against gay marriage on the surface, she could very easily be pro gay marriage in her own prejudice way, but unable to express it well because she's an idiot.

There were two gay men sitting at the table and neither of them even knew how to respond to Tefft's prayer.

Regardless, everyone was starving, so we all dug in and filled our bellies to maximum capacity.

Happy Thanksgiving, my friends.
